Overview
Edmonton Chinese Alliance Church (ECAC) is a growing, intergenerational and intercultural community of followers of Jesus. We are a Christ-centered, Spirit empowered, service minded and mission focused church with a vision to turn people into fully devoted followers of Jesus.
We are currently seeking a Senior Pastor with mature ministry experience. As a “Leader of leaders,” his key strengths will be leadership & strategic visioning; mentoring & teamwork; and cultural awareness.
General Duties
- Leading the team of Pastors to work cohesively
- Strategically evaluating disciple-making’s progress church wide
- Mentoring and training of associate Pastors
- Preaching
- Administration
Reporting Relationships
Reports to: The Elders Board (the Board)
Supervises: Associate Pastors and other church staff
Partners with: All congregational pastors and their councils
Characteristics and Skills
- Mature follower of Jesus who has a vibrant and growing relationship with God
- Spiritual leader in the home, church and community with thorough understanding and practice of God’s Word
- Excellent people skills to work collaboratively with all existing teams
- Strong public communication skills for vision casting and preaching
- Able to think organizationally and develop proper systems with strong analytical and decision-making abilities
- Strong language skills in English and either Cantonese or Mandarin
- Knowledge and understanding of cross-cultural issues and their ministry implications, including how to reach target groups and post-modern culture in relevant ways
- Able to build relationships and resolve conflicts
- Servant-hearted positive outlook with passionate pastoral love and care
Primary Duties
Ministry to all Associate Pastors
- Shepherd and care for all Associate Pastors for their roles and development
- Perform annual reviews and help set goals for Associate Pastors
- Monitor and provide coaching and mentoring as required
- Chair weekly Pastoral team meetings
- Attend weekly prayer meetings rotating through the different congregations
- Preach to the different congregations once a month
Equipping Leaders
- Upon the approval of the Board, recruit pastoral candidates for required positions
- Confirm the candidate’s calling with the Board and nominate the successful candidate to the District Superintendent for appointment
Other Duties
- Lead the Board by overseeing the church’s vision, mission and core values with their strategic planning and implementation
- Serve as the Board chair and lead its prayer meetings
- Provide oversight of the Board to ensure compliance with C&MA local church constitution
- Chair the Annual General Meeting and General Membership Meetings
- Oversee the management of church staff
- Hold periodic staff meetings
- Recruit staff when necessary and evaluate their performance
- Take disciplinary actions (up to and including recommendations for dismissal) if required.
- Correspondence and building positive relationships with the District Superintendent, District Office, and other churches.
- Represent ECAC in a professional and exemplary manner
Qualifications
- Master’s of Divinity or equivalent
- Must be licensed worker in the C&MA or willing to go through licensing process
- Must be willing to be part of a team and work well in a team environment
- Must be able to communicate in more than English
- Minimum 5 years of experience in ministry equivalent
Hours per Week
- 37.5 hours per week, salary
- Plus average 5 volunteer hours per week
